World famous Choreographer William Forsythe and Professor Kendall Thomas form Colombia University Faculty of Law,meet the festival audience with Human Writes,a project dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.While dancers making efforts on making out letters,words and sentences from the Declaration of Human Rights on tables covered coal dust in Antrepo 3 during the performance,they will endeavour to present a physical discourse concerning the reinstatement and preservation of human rights,in which the failure of such efforts is inscribe by means of a powerful body language.This compelling performance-installation also invites the audience to take part in choreography.

Candas and members of Ciplak Ayaklar Kumpanyasi were taking part in the Istanbul’s  version of the performance…

Engin-Ar is the latest outcome from Ciplak Ayaklar’s collaboration with C dans C, a French group combining hip-hop with modern dance.The piece is a 3 year old dream come true thanks to the amazing collaboration that we had,thanks to the support of French Consulate and all my friends of Ciplak Ayaklar…

This blend in which eight dancers will contribute with their bodies and senses is called “a variation of love,relationship and balances in spite of taboos,obstacles,honor,religions,languages,races”..Let’s see where this variation will take them in their journey?A group of eight people…Eight different souls,eight different bodies,a relationship in folds of eight…To snap a big slice from life…To become a whole leaf…To exist in its own existence…

If the fictional idea behind The Trial by Kafka occurred to a playwright living in Istanbul today, and if he/she wrote a play around that concept, what would that play be like?Writer-director Kerem Kurdoglu has re-written The Trial, in search of the answer to this very question. It is difficult to define the outcome as Kafkaesque ; on the contrary, it is a colourful tale of  falling from heights wrapped up in the shiny, glossy coat of the world of entertainment. A show where music, choreography and spectacle claim center-stage… Welcome to an entertaining Kafka musical!

Orta Anadolu has produced 6 short movies for it’s new campaign.The films are directed by Cynthia Madensky and choreographied by Candas Bas and Ciplak Ayaklar Kumpanyasi.It was a great opportunity to work in amazing place such as Kasimpasa Shipyard which has been evacuated back in the 1980’s.Here are some photos of Ozgur Baykal from the shootings…

Ciplak Ayaklar Kumpanyasi has a new studio in Bogazkesen which has been renovated by the company dancers since august.The place is going to serve as rehearsal studio,performance center and residency for the artists in collaboration.This dream come true , still needs to have a dance floor,mirrors and air conditions for being in use.The company is already rehearsing it’s new piece and still searching for sponsorship and funds.We thank all our supporters who were there for us,who took us here to create our dream…

I’m there with my loneliness, my past, my heart which still bleeds…It’s not comfortable, it seems like it’s not even the same body which carries me since longtime. I’m a stranger now..discovering the body,discovering somebody,searching,getting lost..

I remember him, the first time he was touching met, this touch seems so precious now, so far away.. I feel him more closer from that distance, but i’m alone now, trying to remember, memories take me..

I’m passing those paths, those paths that I passed several times again and again, starting from the beginning, starting from myself again, he’s there I know, only if I could open my eyes, only if I could look inside..

Is he is touching me ,it’s the only thing i can feel right now…
I started to walk again, same places, different people this time…Telephone calls, conditinal relations, suspicous behaviours, no understanding. But I feel a little different now..I want it to be more soft this time…But it’s another trap that I prepared for myself..This path is not easy. I made the same mistake again, I know what will come out this time,is he there??

It’s another loop which takes me..It’s darker now, I fall, I cry, scream, stand up , fall, rise and fall, rise and fall again..Nobody’s there to hear me, silence surrounds me, fall and rise , fall and rise again…

Was he ever there???…

The energy of jazz dance and fluidity of modern dance are meeting in this class. We will be learning about the basics of the movement and let the music take us to an exciting trip..

The class is composed of some breathing exersises,based on the understanding of articulations and isolation of the articulations, necessary techniqual movement,dancing phrase and strech..

“Looking for the wish tree?” is a street installation made for the Visibility Project organized by Galata Perform. Candas placed some illustrations giving directory to “the wish tree “in the streets of Galata.After a little tour in the neighbourhoud the visitor could find the wish tree-a mirror installation-, facing him or herself.. It was supported by two bubble makers with which the passenger could make a wish to blow  in the wind.Unfortunately the mirror was stolen 2 hours after it was placed.

“You search for yourself where the mirror says that you are. Here you are that’s what you are , says the mirror. You look for yourself and just find the emptiness in that place,a black hole. You try to see ,can’t see, get lost. The mirrors play with you. You go back to see yourself, then change place, loose yourself . You loose all your identitity, you doubt about where you are, who you are…

“The concept of “Mirror” was originated when three dancers in Belgium began questioning body, movement, space and time. In Istanbul it is growing and developing by the participation of artists (performance artists, dancers, actor, video-music producer) from different countries, origins and backgrounds.

“Mirror” potraits the lives of five ordinary people who are in ever lasting and ever repeating loops and their relations and their searches. It is the story of the people who are unable to see themselves, who are lost in reflections and illusions.
It’s about falling, stumbling, cutting of in order to begin again; as well as the awareness of the body, the alienation of oneself and the sexual identities.
In other words “Mirror” is the story of the people who are dragging along in life.
Once there was a butterfly who forgot to fly.
Who simply forgot to fly. Just forgot to fly.
This butterfly is dead now..
“Mirror” is a small cross-section of our eternal journey in this world where we have forgotten that we have wings and are able to fly…

The class is based on a warm up,floor work,center,across the floor,ending phrase and a cool down .There will be improvisation sessions and composition work aiming to complete a whole stage performance at the end of the season..
