AFİFE is a large-scale theatre production inspired by Afife Jale, the first Muslim woman to perform on stage in Türkiye. Moving between biography, memory and theatrical fantasy, the work explores the price of visibility, the violence of prohibition and a woman’s determination to perform in a society intent on silencing her.
