The Rakı Series is an ongoing body of work using the rakı glass and rakı table as choreographic objects through which questions of migration, belonging, intimacy and memory are explored. Beginning with the solitary ritual of Trautes Heim / Home Sweet Home, the glass travels with the body: held, balanced, offered and shared.

Across the series, a familiar social ritual is displaced and transformed. The rakı table becomes a space for confession, humour, politics and remembrance; the glass becomes a fragile container for what is carried from one place to another; language, relationships, cultural memory and the unresolved idea of home.

Moving between solitude and gathering, departure and return, the works ask what remains with the body after leaving, what can be reconstructed elsewhere, and what cannot be left behind.

YOLLUK· THE LAST SIP

Yolluk is the last sip of rakı poured for the road ahead,  a ritual of departure, inheritance and unresolved belonging.

In a 16-minute looping video, the rakı glass is balanced across the body, carried through trembling shifts of weight. The glass becomes an extension of memory, fragile, persistent, impossible to give up.

The work traces how imagined freedom can turn into another form of pressure, how migration reshapes the body’s sense of safety, language and home.

Yolluk is a looping threshold between beginnings and loss, between leaving and carrying.
